Bush(or whoever) says that because the U.S. is currently under threat from terrorists from the Al Quaeda, The U.S. government can ignore the 3rd article of the Geneva Convention. Then Bush specifies the U.S. definition of torture and supplements that with additional points that obviously target what happened at Abu Gharib.
Both Bush and the Geneva convention include rather vague promises about human dignity and such, but what the Geneva Convention provides that Bush does not is the guarantee of a trial
“(d) The passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.”
I guess that gets rid of all the Guantanamo Bay law suits.
